Pomona Outlasts Windsor With Chase Keaton Walk-OFF Field Goal In 3A Championship Game

Pomona rode a late defensive stand and a walk-off kick from junior Chase Keaton to a 17-14 win over Windsor in the Class 3A state championship game on Saturday at Canvas Stadium.

With the score tied 14-14 and less than a minute remaining, Pomona drove into Windsor territory and turned to Keaton, who drilled a 40-yard field goal to give the Panthers the lead for good. The kick capped a fourth quarter defined by field position and timely stops from both defenses.

Luis Santana | 72 Yards | 49-yard Touchdown Pass

Luis Santana did a little bit of everything — and then some — to lead Pomona to a 17-14 win over Windsor in the Class 3A state championship game Saturday.

The senior running back was named game MVP after rushing for 72 yards, catching two passes for 16 yards and throwing a 49-yard touchdown pass to quarterback Tucker Ingersoll. Santana also helped set up the final drive that ended with Chase Keaton’s walk-off 40-yard field goal in the final minute.

Windsor struck first in the opening quarter after a series of early swings in momentum. Pomona’s Jaydon Molina intercepted a pass to halt one Wizards drive, but Windsor’s Oliver Halligan recovered a fumble on the Panthers’ 21-yard line. Quarterback Mason Moore capped the short field with a 1-yard rushing touchdown, and Mason Waggoner’s extra point made it 7-0.

Pomona answered in the second quarter behind its run game. Emmitt Munson powered in from 1 yard out to tie it 7-7 after a Keaton PAT. On the next scoring drive, Santana rolled the pocket and found Ingersoll downfield for the 48-yard touchdown that put the Panthers in front at the break.

Windsor rallied to open the third quarter. Moore connected with Declan Forrer on a 14-yard touchdown pass, and Waggoner’s extra point knotted the game at 14-14. From there, both defenses tightened. Pomona forced a turnover on downs and multiple punts, while Windsor’s Ezekial Llamas came up with a key interception in the fourth to keep the Panthers from pulling away.

A late Windsor punt finally flipped field position, giving Pomona the ball near midfield. Santana steered the offense into range, and Keaton took it from there, delivering the 40-yard game-winner that sealed Pomona’s 3A championship — and put a finishing touch on Santana’s MVP performance.
