Cherry Creek Overpowers Regis Jesuit in Season Opener, 45-10

AURORA — Cherry Creek opened its Class 5A title defense with a statement Thursday night, rolling past Regis Jesuit 45-10 in front of a packed crowd at Lou Kellogg Stadium.

The Bruins dominated all three phases of the game, storming out to a 28-point first quarter that quickly silenced the home stands.

Quarterback Brady Vodicka was at the center of the action, throwing two touchdown passes but also getting intercepted twice. His first score came on a short pass to tight end Anthony Betti ’26, who fumbled at the goal line before sophomore Alijah Landrum-Hamilton ’27 pounced on the ball in the end zone for a touchdown. Later in the half, Vodicka connected with BYU commit Ty Goettsche ’26, who shed a tackle and raced 35 yards for a score.

Special teams delivered the other first-quarter spark when Amari Williams ’26 blocked a Regis Jesuit punt in the end zone, and Karson McKenzie ’27 recovered it for a touchdown. Williams also added an interception that set up another quick strike.

The Bruins’ ground game proved equally explosive. UConn commit Jayden Fox ’26 provided the night’s signature highlight with a 94-yard untouched touchdown run, part of his 3 TD, 169 yard performance. Elijah Cromwell ‘28 scored from the 1 after breaking off a long run that set up the short plunge.

By halftime, Cherry Creek led 38-10. The Bruins tacked on another score in the third quarter before leaning on their defense to close out the win.

The loss spoiled the opener for a young Regis Jesuit squad still finding its identity. The Raiders managed their lone touchdown in the second quarter but were otherwise held in check by a fast, physical Cherry Creek defense.

Cherry Creek, winners of five of the past six state titles, moved to 1-0 with the win. Regis Jesuit fell to 0-1.

The Bruins are on the road in Florida (Cardinal Mooney) next week looking to build on a dominant start, while the Raiders aim to regroup against Valor Christian.
