The heat was on at Broncos Park powered by CommonSpirit, and two programs walked away with more than just momentum — they left with titles.
Riverdale Ridge stormed through the bracket to claim the 2025 Denver Broncos 7-on-7 Championship, knocking off a loaded field that included Broomfield, Arapahoe, Valor Christian, and a red-hot Legend team in the final. Meanwhile, Eaglecrest took top honors in the Lineman Challenge, powered by unity, strength, and a brotherhood that’s quickly becoming their identity.
Both teams made clear statements: the offseason grind is paying off, and this fall could look very different across the Colorado high school football landscape.
Riverdale Ridge Puts Everyone on Notice
Led by rising quarterback Jaaziah Gallegos, the Ravens showed poise and precision throughout the day, making clutch plays against some of the state’s most respected programs. Their championship run wasn’t just about scheme or speed — it was about execution and belief.
“We put ourselves on the map,” said head coach Wayne Voorhees. “We play high school football just north of I-70. We played really well. Jaaziah made some really good reads and delivered the ball. That’s what we talked about from the get-go today — we have to execute. It’s all about confidence. And I think our kids believe we can compete with anybody.”
That belief translated into results. After taking care of Broomfield — the defending 4A state champions — Riverdale Ridge battled through Arapahoe and then edged Valor Christian to reach the final. There, they met a surging Legend squad that had built momentum through the bracket. But the Ravens never flinched.
“We came in wanting it more than everybody,” said Gallegos, whose calm presence and accuracy were pivotal throughout the day. “We line up and play — no matter who’s across from us. Everything came together today, and it shows. It’s a preview of what’s coming.”
Gallegos’ leadership, paired with a physical receiving corps and a defense that tightened up in every big moment, proved to be the formula.
This wasn’t just a showcase win — it was a statement that Riverdale Ridge isn’t satisfied with near misses or moral victories anymore. They want hardware — and they just got a taste.
Eaglecrest’s Linemen Rise to the Top
While skill players battled for space on the turf, it was the big men up front who brought just as much energy to the Broncos Lineman Challenge. And Eaglecrest delivered in every phase.
Led by anchors Javon Jones and Thomas Lechuga, the Raptors edged out Fountain-Fort Carson and Columbine to claim the top prize.
“It feels great — it’s the first time at Eaglecrest that I’ve won it,” said Jones, clearly emotional after the win. “Our team is so connected. It’s definitely gonna be different this year.”
That chemistry was echoed by Lechuga, whose leadership has become a cornerstone for Eaglecrest in the trenches.
“It’s the brotherhood that we have that made it happen,” he said. “We trust each other. That’s everything.”
Eaglecrest powered through a series of strength, speed, and agility challenges designed to test endurance, teamwork, and toughness. From tire flips to sled pulls, and tug-o-war, the Raptors were relentless — and efficient.
While linemen don’t always get the same spotlight as skill players at showcase events, the Broncos’ Lineman Challenge offers a platform to change that. And Eaglecrest seized the opportunity, showing that their front line will be a force to watch this fall.
A Preview of Fall Football in Colorado
The Broncos 7-on-7 and Lineman Challenge are more than just summer competitions. They provide a small glimpse into the leadership, chemistry, and rising talent across Colorado high school football.
For Riverdale Ridge, the tournament title represents a turning point — from being a solid program to a serious contender. With Gallegos under center and the confidence of knocking off elite teams, the Ravens look ready to take the next step in 2024.
For Eaglecrest, the Lineman Challenge win signals a renewed focus in the trenches — a commitment to physicality and connection that can carry through the long grind of a fall season.
These teams didn’t just win events — they won belief, identity, and momentum.
