As Shedeur Sanders took the field for his first NFL rookie mini camp with the Cleveland Browns, all eyes from Boulder to Berea were watching. The former Colorado Buffaloes quarterback, now donning the brown and orange, is officially in the league — and the spotlight is only getting brighter.
While fans and analysts are eager to see where Shedeur fits into the Browns’ long-term plans, head coach Kevin Stefanski made it clear that no quick judgments are being made during spring workouts.
“I wouldn’t look into anything,” Stefanski said when asked about how quarterback reps are being divided. “I think you’ll see [us rotating] the whole weekend going through the spring.”
That mindset reinforces Stefanski’s approach of not getting caught up in the day-to-day optics of who’s taking first-team reps or when.
“We don’t pay too close attention to who’s in there first,” Stefanski added. “There’s plenty of reps.”
Instead, the Browns are focused on a broader evaluation process — one that goes beyond just what happens on the practice field.
“There’s a lot of time between now and September, so we’ll have a plan,” he said. “But it’s an all-encompassing evaluation. It’s not something that’s just based on the practice reps. There’s a lot that goes into it.”
For Sanders, that means this is just the beginning. His arm talent, football IQ, and leadership were on full display during his time at Colorado, where he became one of college football’s most watched players under the spotlight of Coach Prime. Now, he’s entering a more level playing field, surrounded by fellow rookies and competing veterans.
Though Stefanski hasn’t hinted at any specific quarterback depth chart plans, Sanders’ presence alone signals Cleveland’s interest in developing long-term talent at the position. Whether he’s pushing for a backup role or soaking up knowledge as he adjusts to the speed of the NFL, every rep counts.
From Folsom Field to the NFL, Sanders carries the pride of Buff Nation into the next phase of his football career. As the Browns continue offseason activities, Denver Sports Media will be tracking every step of Shedeur’s progression — because while the NFL journey is long, Shedeur’s story is only getting started.
