Denver Broncos wide receiver Marvin Mims Jr. added another accolade to his growing résumé, earning AFC Special Teams Player of the Week for his electrifying performance in Denver’s 31-13 win over the Indianapolis Colts in Week 15. The NFL announced the award on Wednesday, highlighting Mims Jr.’s pivotal role in the victory.
This is the sixth Player of the Week honor for the Broncos this season, a testament to the team’s collective excellence across all phases of the game. Mims joins kicker Wil Lutz (Weeks 3 & 12), cornerback Pat Surtain II (Week 5), linebacker Cody Barton (Week 7), and quarterback Bo Nix (Week 11) in earning weekly recognition. Mims’ accolade is the third special teams honor for Denver this season and marks the 36th time a Bronco has claimed the award since its inception in 1993.
In the victory over the Colts, Mims Jr. delivered a game-changing performance, returning three punts for a total of 97 yards, an average of 32.3 yards per return. This marks the second-highest punt return yardage by any player in the NFL this season and is the most by a Bronco in a single game since Trindon Holliday accomplished the feat in 2013.
Mims Jr. has been a standout in the return game throughout the 2024 season. His 408 punt return yards on 26 attempts (15.7 avg.) lead the NFL and rank as the seventh-highest single-season total in Broncos history. Over his first two seasons, Mims has amassed 720 career punt return yards, the fourth most by any Bronco in their first two years.
In addition to his special teams contributions, the second-year wide receiver has proven his versatility. In 30 career games, including eight starts, Mims Jr. has caught 45 passes for 664 yards (14.8 avg.), rushed 20 times for 70 yards, and returned 21 kickoffs for 564 yards (26.9 avg.), including one touchdown.
As the Broncos push toward the postseason, Mims Jr.’s ability to tilt the field on special teams could prove invaluable. His consistent impact, both as a returner and a playmaker, underscores why he remains one of the league’s rising stars.
Denver fans can look forward to more thrilling moments from Mims Jr. as he continues to make his mark on the franchise’s storied history.
