Valor Christian Opens Season with Dominant Win Over Pine Creek 31-14

The Valor Christian Eagles kicked off their 2024 high school football season with a commanding 31-14 victory over the Pine Creek Eagles on Friday, August 23rd. Playing at home in Highlands Ranch, Valor Christian showcased their balanced offensive attack and strong defensive plays to secure the win.

Valor Christian took control of the game early, with standout performances from their quarterback Dawson Olk (’26), who threw for 287 yards, and receiver Cash Spence (’26), who went for 189 receiving yards and 2 touchdowns. The team also amassed 120 rushing yards, demonstrating their versatility on offense. Pine Creek struggled to keep up, managing to score two touchdowns but ultimately falling short against the well-coordinated Valor Christian defense.

“We knew Cameron and Elijah are some of the best players in the state, so we didn’t want them to have big games. Elijah had a couple of big plays early, so stopping those guys. So they didn’t have a big night because last year they did. So I think that was part of the game plan.” said Valor Christian head coach Bret McGatlin.

Pine Creek had moments of brilliance, particularly in their running game, but they were unable to sustain drives and capitalize on opportunities. As they look forward to the rest of the season, Pine Creek will need to regroup and focus on improving their execution on both sides of the ball.

The win sets a positive tone for Valor Christian as they aim to build on their storied football tradition, while Pine Creek will seek to bounce back in their next game.
