ENGLEWOOD — The Denver Broncos officially named rookie Bo Nix as their starting quarterback on Wednesday, marking a significant moment for the former Oregon Ducks standout. Head coach Sean Payton announced the decision, emphasizing Nix’s consistency, arm strength, and off-schedule playmaking as key factors.
“Bo Nix is going to be our starting quarterback,” Payton said. “He’s been outstanding, but there’s still a lot of room for growth. We’re confident in his ability to lead this team.”
Nix, who now becomes the first rookie to start for Denver since John Elway in 1983, expressed his excitement and readiness for the challenge ahead. “It was really cool to get that news,” Nix said. “I’m super excited and ready to get back to work. The goal is to give our team the best chance to win games every week.”
Nix’s teammates have also taken notice of his command and confidence on the field. Broncos cornerback Patrick Surtain II noted how Nix’s leadership has resonated with the entire offense. “You could just tell how confident he is,” Surtain said. “He builds confidence with the veteran guys. I think Bo will get the job done.”
As the Broncos prepare for the upcoming season, Payton remains focused on continuing Nix’s development while also relying on the experience of backup quarterbacks Jarrett Stidham and Zach Wilson. “Stidy and Zach have been great resources for Bo,” Payton said. “We’re pleased with where we’re at, but we know there’s a lot of work ahead.”
Nix will make his debut as the Broncos’ starting quarterback when Denver opens the season against the Seattle Seahawks, a game that will see the rookie take the reins and lead the team into a new era.
